Hezron Insights is a Nairobi-based research and knowledge platform founded by strategic communication professional and researcher Hezron Ochiel.
We examine how artificial intelligence, search, media and strategic communication are reshaping what gets found, understood, trusted, cited and recommended.
Our work sits at the intersection of AI visibility, digital authority, strategic communication, research communication, Digital PR and the visibility of African knowledge.
At the centre of our work is a simple question:
Why does credible expertise sometimes remain difficult to find while weaker information travels much further?
The question has become increasingly important as people rely on search engines, AI assistants, media organisations and digital platforms to discover information and decide what, and whom, to trust.
Hezron Insights uses original research to understand how information moves through modern digital systems.
We use data, audits, experiments and structured analysis to investigate what is happening rather than relying solely on commentary or assumptions.
Our research examines questions such as:
Our goal is to turn these questions into evidence that researchers, organisations, communicators and knowledge institutions can use.
Our flagship study, the African Humanitarian AI Citation Index (AHACI), examined how AI systems surface and cite humanitarian knowledge relating to Africa.
The study analysed 1,083 verifiable citations across ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek and Perplexity, covering ten African countries.
The findings showed that only 5.5% of citations were country-local, while 68.8% came from United Nations agencies and other multilateral organisations.
The study introduced the concept of citation localisation, providing a framework for examining whose knowledge becomes visible when AI systems explain issues affecting African countries.
AHACI reflects a broader question that drives our work:
When AI systems explain Africa, whose knowledge gets represented?
The information landscape is changing rapidly.
Search engines are evolving. AI systems are becoming major gateways to information. Media ecosystems are fragmenting, while organisations and experts increasingly depend on digital platforms to establish credibility and reach the audiences that matter to them.
Hezron Insights exists to study these changes and make them easier to understand.
We are interested not only in what information is available, but also in which information becomes visible, which sources are trusted, how authority is established and whose knowledge gets amplified.
Our work combines research, strategic communication and digital analysis to help make sense of this evolving landscape.
Hezron Insights is a research and knowledge platform focused on understanding visibility, authority and the future of information.
