My 100th Edition: Lessons from Writing 100,000 Words of Hezron Insights

My 100th Edition: Lessons from Writing 100,000 Words of Hezron Insights

Today marks a huge milestone as I celebrate my 100th edition of the Hezron Insights Newsletter.

That adds up to about 100,000 words, almost the size of a whole book written piece by piece, week after week.

Suppose each article took me around two hours to pen down; that will translate into a whopping 200 hours of thinking, reflecting, and putting ideas into words that could inspire someone somewhere.

The journey began after I was inspired by my colleague Frank, who was running a LinkedIn newsletter called Frankly Speaking.

I admired how he shared his thoughts, and one day I told myself that maybe I could do the same, or even something much bigger.

I wanted to create a space where lessons from life, leadership, and everyday experiences could come alive in simple, relatable ways.

So, I started writing, one edition after another.

There were days I felt charged and full of energy, and other days when ideas seemed far away. Still, I kept showing up, because growth happens when we stay committed even when no one is watching.

If a kind reader chose to say “thank you” or “good job,” it was a pleasant surprise because my only intention was to pour out my heart.

Over time, that simple act grew into a vibrant community of readers from around the world who continue to read, share, and engage with these insights.

Through it all, writing has become my way of leaving a mark on the world.

At first, I wrote every two weeks, but soon, momentum built up.

Readers began asking for more, and I found myself writing every week.

Some weeks, I write more than one article, driven by the flow of ideas and the joy of creating something that speaks to people.

From LinkedIn to my own platform

When I started, my LinkedIn newsletter had around 1000 subscribers.
Today, that community has grown to 27,000 loyal readers, and the number keeps rising.

With growth came the need to create something of my own. I wanted a space where I could connect directly with readers, listen to their feedback, and nurture a real community.

LinkedIn newsletters, as it is today, keep subscriber data private, so creators cannot reach readers outside the platform. That limitation gave me the idea to build my own digital home.

That is how www.hezroninsights.com came to life.

Owning my platform allows me to:

  1. Protect my readers’ information and maintain trust.
  2. Interact directly with readers and understand their needs.
  3. Build a strong, loyal community beyond social platforms.
  4. Share resources, newsletters, and learning materials freely.
  5. Create multiple content formats such as blogs, courses, and reflections.

Alongside the website, my LinkedIn page has grown remarkably, reaching 54,000 followers and generating 22 million impressions in a year.

Where does the inspiration come from?

Many of my readers often ask me two things: where I find the inspiration to write and how I make time for it.

Inspiration, for me, comes from observation. I learn from what I experience, what I see in others, what I hear in conversations, and even from the silence in between.

I have also learned to notice patterns, those small details that often reveal bigger truths.

Some have called me a “foreteller” because several things I wrote about years ago eventually came to pass.

For example, years back, I predicted the decline of professional photography as smartphones grew more advanced, a prediction that later proved true. You can read: The Impact of Smartphones on Professional Photographers: Are They Being Rendered Jobless?

More recently, I explored the topic: Will AI Replace PR Professionals? What You Need to Know. Whether it will happen or not, only time will tell, though the signs are already on the wall.

My reflections come from studying patterns. Like in Kisumu, where I grew up, people know that when it rains, malaria cases rise. You don’t need to be gifted to see it; observe how life moves.

Finding the time

Balancing a full-time job with writing is tough, but I’ve learned that time always reveals our priorities.

A day has 24 hours, with work taking about eight. What you do with the rest defines what you become.

While some unwind with entertainment or by scrolling through social media, I write. I write in traffic, in quiet moments, and even in the middle of conversations when an idea flashes through my mind.

Writing helps me make sense of the world and keeps my mind sharp and grounded.

Sustaining the flow of ideas

Every writer struggles with writer’s block, a moment when ideas seem to disappear. When that happens, I step back.

I take walks in quiet places, sit by flowing waters, wander through nature trails, or listen to the chirping of birds. Nature clears my mind and breathes life into new ideas.

In those quiet moments, I’ve learned that solitude has its own wisdom. It has taught me that silence is a writer’s best friend.

The results

Looking back, this journey has evolved beyond writing itself. It has shaped my growth, deepened my self-discovery, and strengthened my connection with others.

Through Hezron Insights, I have become part of a growing circle of storytelling platforms where readers come to learn, reflect, and find purpose through words.

At the heart of it all, my mission remains simple: to “heal the world with kindness” and to become the “best storyteller of all time.”

This commitment has opened doors for me to share my thoughts with audiences in Kenya and beyond, speaking about storytelling and communication.

Along the way, I have welcomed guest writers such as Judith Akoth and Fran Bordas, whose insights continue to enrich this space and inspire deeper conversations.
